Message
of the week - Guru bhakti and Guru Seva
|
Guru bhakti and
Guru seva are important factors in spiritual life. Guru bhakti is devotion to the Guru. It helps to free the disciple from earthly attachments to other worldly things and beings. Guru seva or service of the Guru when properly done is effective in removing selfishness, laziness and cravings for comfort in spiritual sadhakas. True guru bhakti is in obeying and following the upadesh and instructions of your Guru. Real guru seva is to live your life and conduct yourself in such a manner that your life and personal vyavahara bring a good name to the Guru. It raises the Guru’s reputation to higher heights and makes your Guru enshrined forever in the memory of all men. The best guru dakshina that can be offered to any Guru is a life lived in accordance with the Guru’s teachings. A tree is known by its fruits. A flower is known through its fragrance. A country is known by its citizens. A father is known by the nature and
behavior of his son. A teacher is known by his students. This is the popular belief in human society. Hence, the devotees and disciples of any holy person must try their utmost best to make themselves the embodiment of that holy person’s teachings and reflect guru upadesha in their own day-to-day life.

I Answer? Devotees Asked...Guruji Answered

Question
: I lost my husband to Leukemia about an year ago. My daughter and I prayed day and night to Sai to heal him and give him some more time. My husband was a good human being, a devoted father and husband, and a very religious man. He even endured, first heart disease and then leukemia with great patience and courage. Why was he made to suffer? Why our prayers were not answered? How can we replace emptiness created by his death with peace.
Answer
:
Before Baba left His body, devotees were requesting Him to continue. Baba told the truth that even He will have to leave the body one day. Any one born with a body will go one day. The method of departure is preordained because of past lives’ actions called “prarabdha” The ultimate answer can only be given by God. ‘karma prarabdha’ what scriptures say, is the reason for all sufferings. Further, a certain quantum of duty is given to a person within a certain period of time on this earth. Once that is over he has to go. When the body becomes useless, by whatsoever manner to do any job for the soul, the soul departs and enters another body fit to do such work.
This law of nature works on the good, the bad, the religious, the nonbeliever and everyone. I know the loss cannot be mitigated. But continue to pray to Baba to give peace to the soul.

Dear Folks,
My name is SRIRAM KALAGA and I presently live in Jacksonville, Florida, USA. I am writing this after offering my pranams and prayers to Sadguru Sainath of Shirdi. The spirit of Sai is behind all His devotees’ intents and actions; so, I believe it is Baba who inspired me to share these humble thoughts of mine with Sai devotees everywhere. Lord Sai Baba came into my life first time in April 2002 when I visited a Sai Temple in Vizag, India. That was a time of severe turmoil in my life here in America – education, career and otherwise. For over 3 years, I had ups and downs – loss of employment twice and loss of family due to divorce. These difficulties deeply tested my faith and trust in Him. The times were hard to endure but I took refuge in Sai’s basic tenets – diligence (shraddha) and patience (saburi). I also experienced many of His “leelas” and miracles which proved beyond any doubt that Sai is omnipresent in every aspect of our existence and will always be there to help us in His own unique way. I visited Shirdi in December 2004 and that reinforced my faith in many ways. Sai’s darshan gave me joy, peace and reassurance for the future. Shirdi Sai Baba now pervades every ounce of my thought and being. I perform a Sai Abhisekha every day in the morning and spend a few minutes reading from a book of His Leelas. The more I read and meditate on Him, the more I realize that all our experiences in life – joys, sorrows and everything in between – are only a result of our prarabdha and sanchita karma. We have to face them; there is no escape. Only Sai is capable of fully erasing them or help us bear the pain from that suffering. All our mortal choices and actions are based on materialistic thinking and are therefore biased. We cannot succeed unless Sai blesses our efforts and guides us through our journey. We are His children and He will always listen to us when we pray and ask for help. I am single now but I’m also yearning to share this life with a like-minded woman who is a Sai devotee. I am praying Sai to guide me towards my future wife and dharma patni. I look forward to the day when me and her offer joint prayers to Him, here in America for now and later in Shirdi.
Thanks for reading this.
Jai Sai Ram! May Sai bless you all.
With kindest regards,
Sriram Kalaga
